Today I would like to put down some observation/ thoughts around us and the world over. All are just but thoughts. Things that we see but never gave a deep thought into them to see the other side.
Technology has advanced in the recent past, currently and will in the future, no doubt. One amazing thing about tech progress is that it has been inversely proportional to human intelligence despite the fact that it is enhanced by the same human intelligence. It sounds ridiculous, huh?  Well, let’s look at the mobile phone niche of technology. Mobile phones have advanced from big shapeless, analog and kind of heavy cells to sexy, digital and light cells currently. As mobile phones get slimmer and smarter, such as the latest Samsung Galaxy S III and iPhone, people have become fatter and stupid. Artificial intelligence in the mobile phones has now mimicked and surpassed human intelligence contrary to the prior target of enhancing it. Phones know our streets much better than we do, they can make far much accurate fingerprints and voice recognition than we humans.  We have actually become more dependent on technology than we were some time back- such as in spelling, math, our calendar events reminders, waking up synchronization, you name them. In fact, some of us rely on our gadgets to remind us of very special and personal events like wedding anniversaries and birthdays. Well, maybe we are more occupied with life issues (education, career, family etc) than the past generations were… It is just a thought!
There are very many open air markets in almost all African towns, villages and cities. Most of them have second hand clothe vendors. In fact, second hand clothe have a large market in Africa. This is to say, people acquire at least a second hand clothe in their lifetime. They are popularly referenced to as ‘mitumba’ in East Africa. We love ‘mitumba’ for various reasons. They are affordable, unique (in that, it is very rare to find three or more of the same design lest it is a sport jersey) and one would say durable! In spite of all the positive qualities of ‘mitumba’, there is a niche that I find rather not decent for people to buy. The inner clothing! In actual sense, one would find it very uncomfortable to wear a friend’s or even a relative’s inner wear! There is that ‘it-is-disgusting’ look one would have once such a topic is introduced to them. The question is how do you feel comfortable to buy a boxer, panties or bra of someone you know nothing about? Not their look, habit, hygiene nature or health condition. The Kenyan government once issued a ban on importation of second hand inner clothing but they still find their way to the markets and onto people’s bodies! Try and imagine this: wearing a boxer or panties of someone with fungal infection down there! Women have had strange breasts infections thanks to the unique, affordable and durable ‘mitumba’ bras! I suppose we can still buy the lovely clothe designs from abroad  made available by second hand clothing but not our inner wears! As I said, it is just a thought!
One last thought or rather observation…hmm… let me make them two! There is this trend in town, ladies wear multi-coloured hair additions, yes, wigs. All African have black hair, right? It would be strange to meet an African in the streets with green, blue or pink hair. What would be the reaction of a woman giving birth to a baby with green or pinky hair? Am pretty sure it won’t be of joy like, ‘wow, my baby looks like Nicky Minaj or Pinky!’ It will be on national TVs and radios. However, ladies have green and all the odd coloured hair in town. I tend to wonder if they would be thrilled had God created them with Christmas tree- coloured hair. Human beings always want to stand out so as to be the easy pick. However, when they are ready-made stand outs, they want to blend back in. The same would be for one born with green hair, they would work hard to make it black just the way old lads do with their grey hair. Remember, all these are nothing but my thought!!
